Mike Fairall
Principal
MCGP | CGV | CGB | LEED for Homes Green Rater| LEED AP Homes| HERS Rater

Mike was born and raised in Pennsylvania where he was introduced into the construction industry at an early age; working mostly in production building and development.   He honed his experience while working for Ryan Homes Corporation both in the field and on the operations side of construction.  Mike moved to Hawaii after being accepted into Hawaii Pacific’s Master of Diplomacy and Military studies program.  At the same time continuing to do what he knew best working in Hawaii’s ever growing construction industry.

In 2004, Mike started, Mokulua Carpentry and Construction, which would later evolve into what is now MOKULUA High Performance Builder. Founded on the values, principles and ethics that Mike grew up with, MOKULUA is a unique company in all regards with a “strategic and diplomatic” approach to building that incorporates his passion and commitment to the environment and building sustainably.  Since MOKULUA’s inception, Mike has made great strides increasing awareness for green building in Hawaii as well as on a National and International level working as a consultant with the National Association of Home Builders, U.S. Green Building Council and a number of other industry leaders.

One of just a few individuals in the Nation to hold the various green building and certification credentials from both the USGBC and NAHB; he continues to pursue education and industry awareness for the importance of high performance home building, sustainable development and green building practices.

Joleen Lauriano
Director of Accounting & HR

Joleen is a Kailua girl, where she still lives with her husband Kalani and their four children. As the glue that binds the pages, Joleen manages MOKULUA’s office admin, HR and financial operations.  A task that if often tedious but critical to any company’s success, she has been an integral part of MOKULUA’s growth and success from the outset; having worked with Mike since 2006.  Mike is quick to comment that Joleen keeps him grounded and the company rolling!  With hardly a dull moment in the construction business Joleen maintains the grace and softer side of MOKULUA sharing the Aloha spirit.

Brent Shaffer
Superintendent
MCGP | EPA LEAD Certified

Brent grew up in New Oxford, Pennsylvania and has been building since he could pick up a hammer; largely influenced by his father’s do-it-yourself projects, the nature of building runs in the Shaffer blood. Early on, multi-story tree forts were his specialty; in high school Brent and Mike worked together in a small construction business they called Friends Construction, a snapshot to the future they would create together in Hawaii as MOKULUA High Performance Builder.

There’s nothing Brent can’t accomplish, a talented carpenter, high school wrestling champion and football player, an all around genuine guy. An outdoor enthusiast, Brent is an avid surfer, who tames the waves of the North Shore much like his approach to building, smooth and efficient. Settled in just off Kaneohe Bay; his favorite activity would have to be spending time with his lovely wife Charity and their Great Dane, Crash, enjoying the beauty of the islands.

Barry Wall
Superintendent

Barry was born and raised in Attleboro, Massachusetts; just after finishing high school he began working for a local contractor building high end custom homes throughout New England.  In search of a warmer climate Barry made the trek to Hawaii in 2004 with one of his best friends; purchasing a one way ticket there was no looking back.  Shortly after settling in to his new island home, Barry had the opportunity to hone and expand his expertise working with some of Hawaii’s premiere finish carpenters.  Having absorbed decade’s worth of experience and refining that knowledge into his own style of building, Barry has become a master of the trade.  His passion for fine finish work and a craftsman approach to building has greatly contributed to MOKULUA’s reputation as Hawaii’s premiere custom home builder.

Barry jumped on board with MOKULUA in early 2010 and quickly climbed the ranks as a foreman and site supervisor.  He has continued to develop his skills as a supervisor and project manager with over a decade in the industry.  Calling Kailua his home with his wife Chelsey, golden retriever Winnie and their first child due in October, Barry has truly made the most of that one way trip to the 808.  Barry has embraced the island lifestyle, he is a true surf enthusiast and loves to jam out with friends, playing guitar.

Chris Wittig
Project Coordinator

Chris truly was born and raised in the school of the hard Knox, Knox Indiana to be exact.  Upon completion of high school, Chris was accepted to Hawaii Pacific University, where he graduated Cum Laude in business administration. Prior to Chris’s tenure at MOKULUA he worked in commercial construction where he learned the ins and outs of building commercial retail space from steel framing to finish carpentry on Oahu and Maui.

When a position opened up with an environmentally conscious green company Chris knew it was the company for him.  Working with Mokulua HPB literally from the ground up Chris has learned green building practices that will change the industry for the better.   After 3 years of building a greener Hawaii with the MOKULUA crew he is now using his diverse array of skills as a project coordinator.

In the rare occurrence Chris is not working, he prefers to surf.  If there is no surf he will settle for one-manning, kayaking, bodysurfing, scuba diving, stand up paddling, or sailing.
