World Environment Day

Posted by:

One of the easiest and best ways to have an individual impact on our environment is to be educated. Life is made of choices, and all choices are made based on one’s education and wisdom.

That said, how can you make decisions big or small if you do not know the impact it has on our environment?

So here is my challenge to you…

Today is World Environment Day and to celebrate do some research.  At the very least visit the website and surf around.  You could pick a product you buy on a regular basis and research who makes it, how do they make it, does that process have a negative effect on the environment, do I really need this product, is there a better product to replace it.

Here is a little blurb from the WED website to help get you started.

“World Environment Day (WED) is the annually celebrated global day for positive environmental action. World Environment Day activities take place all year round but climax on 5 June every year, with global participation from the broadest possible cross-section of stakeholders. WED celebrations began in 1972 and have grown to become one of the main UN vehicles to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and to focus political attention and action on specific challenges and issues.”

“The UN Environment Programme defines the Green Economy as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its simplest expression, a green economy can be thought of as one which is low carbonresource efficient and socially inclusive.”
